[It never occurred to him that he might have come off that way—but that makes sense coming from her, doesn't it? She talks about her duties so much, and how bound she is to them. Even now, she's talking about how busy she is . . . maybe she'd decided Gigan was fulfilling his own duties, whatever those are. Luckily for him, he's not a god or anything adjacent, unlike some other kaiju he knows. (Luckily for everyone else, too.)
He shrugs, casual.]
I just wanted to spend some time getting to know you! If you're so busy, you should take a break once in a while to hang out.
[ He... He just wants to spend time getting to know her?
S-Shocking! That's not at all the answer she'd expected. But it does actually sound like something Ritsuka would say... She supposes if he has something in common with her - even if that's the only thing - he can't be a bad person. Or well, bad kaiju. ]
I-I see...
[ She feels so bad and awkward... She lowers her head politely. ]
My apologies. I misread your intentions. I am not used to people treating me so... Normally.
Because you're a goddess or what? But you seem pretty normal to me.
[That's the funny thing about the gods he's met, or god-adjacent beings, or whatever else falls into that general category. They really do seem like normal people . . . or maybe it's that there's no such thing as a normal person, and "normal" people seem just crazy enough to be gods themselves. Theoretically people probably worship Ereshkigal, right? That's a god thing? But it's hard to imagine right now when they're sitting at the bar together.]
W-Well, I am using a human vessel right now. So of course I look normal.
[ Not that her true form doesn't also look human... But she's much more beautiful and radiant! He would probably be awe-struck at the sheer magnificence radiating from her true form, yes yes. ]
But usually people are just afraid because I rule over death.
I didn't just mean how you look! But just because you're a Goddess of Death doesn't mean you're gonna try and kill me or something. Right?
[ . . . Right?
Surely not. The possibility never once occurred to Gigan! If it had, that may have changed his approach somewhat, consciously or otherwise; he is, to say the least, not a being at peace with the concept of his own mortality. Risking his own life too recklessly goes against the way he's wired in both the literal and figurative senses. But that has nothing to do with Ereshkigal! Only someone stupid would be afraid of her for that reason!
[ Ereshkigal tilts her head down to look at her glass as he speaks, but she doesn't answer immediately.
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
Why, that silence is awfully long. In fact, why is it so silent? They're in a bar, right? It should be really loud and noisy! Yet, it's like everything has gone quiet. An unseen power is preventing any sounds from reaching his ears.
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
And wow, it's pretty chilly all of a sudden, isn't it? Who knew cold wind could blow inside a bar! ]
[ Her typically red eyes are now golden, shining as she stares at him with a cold and serious expression. When the goddess speaks, the words she speaks are drawn out and her tone is much deeper than normal, her voice echoing across the silence that reigned so far. ]
Not unless you give me a reason to, mortal.
[ There are no emotions to those words. No joy, no anger, nothing. There is nothing to be perceived in Ereshkigal's sentence but the cold and uncaring finality of death. ]
[ And lo! Suddenly, the cold breeze ceases and all the noises that were suppressed by her aura return. Ereshkigal's eyes go back to normal and she is smiling, seemingly very content with herself. ]
I was just joking, I don't like killing people. B-But that was pretty cool, right?
[ She thinks she was really doing the terrifying goddess act well, if she says so herself! ]
[Gigan physically can't widen his eyes, and even if he could, they're shielded by his red shades right now anyway. But that makes it no less obvious that he is, in spirit, wide-eyed at this display. His brow lifts, and his lips part, and then they part a little more, like that jaw might be on its way to the floor. His human skin prickles into goosebumps, and it's not the first time he's experienced that, but it's one of the first times. It feels so weird when human skin crawls and squirms that way. Even the blood in his veins feels strangely cold, as if his coolant is leaking internally—
Then she gives up the act. That mortification gives way to a strange rush of joy, a physical response—oh, he's heard of this before! The misattribution of arousal! He claps his hands together:]
I was about to run for my life! I didn't think you had it in you! That was crazy!
[ Yay, he did find it cool! And so that means, the strangest thing just yet is about to happen...
The goddess sparkles! Quite literally so, as if the sun was shining upon her and her very being was capable of reflecting its light in a shimmering fashion (they're inside a bar, there is no sun). There's even the sound you hear in movies when a diamond glitters!
She's totally unaware of it though. ]
Ehehe, I rehearsed a lot for it! [You wouldn't believe the hours she spent before a mirror.] But I would never kill a kind kaiju.
